How do I lift items vertically in Sandustry?

Submerge a Launcher in water and feed items into it. Launchers shoot particles upward (vertical lift). Conveyors only move items horizontally; they cannot lift against gravity.

Why are my items falling off the conveyor belt?

Items slip off at belt ends, corners, and diagonal chutes. Place solid blocks (Stone, Scoria) along the outer edge to act as guard rails. For 45-degree slides, ensure the drop zone has a 2-block landing pad.

What is the R-key filter wall mode?

Press R while pointing at a conveyor to open the filter UI. Set material slots to whitelist specific items — other materials will be blocked or redirected. This is essential for multi-material sorting factories.

How fast is a conveyor belt in Sandustry?

Conveyor throughput is limited by how fast you feed items onto the belt — pair with a Launcher or Filter for maximum density.

Can conveyor belts go diagonally?

Yes. Sandustry supports 45-degree diagonal chutes that slide items downhill. They rely on gravity, so they only work in the downward direction.

Unlike tile-based factory builders, Sandustry conveyors operate inside an unconstrained 2D physics sandbox. Materials have friction, momentum, and mass. Conveyors only move items horizontally — lifting items vertically requires hydraulic launchers and gravity chutes.

Horizontal Conveyors

Moves solid particles horizontally at high speeds. Does NOT block solid items falling from above, but acts as a solid floor for sideways flow.

Vertical Hydraulic Launchers

The only machine capable of propelling materials vertically upward. Essential for elevating wet sand onto raised Shaker decks.

Directional Filters (R-Key)

Filters allow specific density materials to fall through while solid items glide over the top deck. Press R to toggle Wall Mode!

Pro Conveyor Setups: Zero-Spill Blueprints

1. The 45° Diagonal Downward Chute:

When bringing items down from high platforms, do NOT let them free-fall. Build a 45-degree angled slide using smooth terrain blocks to retain particle grouping and prevent chaotic particle bouncing.

2. Shaker Back-Pressure Balance:

Never connect a fast excavator belt directly into a Shaker inlet without a buffer funnel. Shakers process at a fast cycle rate — overfeeding will spill excess wet sand off the sides!
